Glitz, Glamour & Glee

The stars were shining very bright on Saturday 18th June as our glamorous Glee girls took to both the stage and the catwalk for our charity extravaganza.  It was a night of fashion and song as the girls, and one boy, from our Uddingston class took on the dual role of performing a selection of songs from their repertoire, as well as taking part in a fashion show to profile outfits from popular clothes shops and their own creations.  And not to be outdone, Glee Club coaches, Linsey and Jill got in on the act, modelling clothes from Ladieswear store, Andiamo.

This was the first show that the Glee Club had done on it’s own but this was hard to tell as each rousing anthem was met by a huge ovation from the packed room.  They kicked off the night with their own version of “Eye of the Tiger”, before delving into some popular Glee anthems like “Taking Chances”, “Defying Gravity” and “Don’t Stop Believing”, as well as some well known chart tunes and musical theatre numbers.  One of the highlights of the night was a beautiful acoustic version of Katy Perry’s “Firework”.

In between all the singing, the girls, the coaches (and not forgetting our one boy) also had time to don some wonderful outfits as they strutted their stuff on the catwalk.  We want to say a huge thanks to Andiamo, New Look, Fairytale Endings and Aitken & Niven for providing a superb range of clothes for the evening.  Everyone looked fantastic and they certainly did justice to all their outfits.

As well as providing some wonderful entertainment, the night also aimed to kick start our year of raising funds for Sport Relief, and we are delighted to announce that £525.00 was raised by the event.  We have set a target of £1,000 for the year and this got us off to a great start.  Some of the funds will also go towards the Glee Club attending a recording studio to put together their own charity cd, which they also hope to sell as part of their fundraising efforts.  A big part of this was the money raised through our raffle, so we wish to thank Jade Flowers of Larkhall, M & D’s, Tunnocks, Brownlee & Brownlee, Rangers Charity Foundation, Dakota Hotels, Wellman Cars, Di Maggio’s, Fringes and Mosko Hair Salons, for their contributions.

As well as being a big year for their charity efforts, the Glee Club also have more performances to look forward to including an appearance at the Bothwell Scarecrow Festival in September and their very own Show at Clyde Valley High School in November.  Following the success of this recent event, demand for tickets is sure to be high, so keep checking back to find out more details of all their forthcoming appearances.
